Detectives have arrested a second suspect in connection with a violent robbery in Parklands, Nairobi, after an intelligence-led operation in the Highridge area.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Emmanuel Akolo, alias Murife, who was arrested in Deep Sea slums following investigations into the incident that was captured in a viral video.
According to the DCI, intelligence gathered by detectives linked Akolo to the robbery, in which a member of the public was violently attacked and robbed of personal valuables.
The incident attracted public attention after footage of the assault circulated widely on social media, showing the victim being confronted and attacked by suspected members of a criminal gang.
Akolo's arrest marks the latest development in the ongoing investigations, following the earlier apprehension of another suspect believed to have been involved in the robbery.
With two suspects now in custody, detectives are intensifying their efforts to track down a third accomplice who remains at large.
The DCI said Akolo is being held in custody as investigators finalise the necessary procedures ahead of his arraignment in court.
The agency has not provided further details about the items stolen during the robbery or the identities of the other suspects allegedly involved.
The arrests come as investigators continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify everyone connected to the incident.
In its statement, the DCI reiterated its commitment to pursuing suspected criminals, dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that those responsible for offences are brought before the courts.
The agency also appealed to members of the public to share information that could help detectives track down the remaining suspect and support ongoing investigations.
Anyone with relevant information can report anonymously through the DCI's toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The agency encouraged the public to cooperate with investigators as efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect continue.
