Quickmart’s initial public offering (IPO) is attracting growing interest from retail investors as the Kenyan supermarket chain opens its ownership to the public through the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The offer, which opened on October 5 and closes on October 30, 2026, involves the sale of two billion existing shares at KSh7.50 each, representing 50% of the company’s issued share capital.
Investor attention has focused on Quickmart’s growth, national store network and financial performance. The retailer generated KSh50.4 billion in revenue in 2025 and recorded an adjusted profit after tax of KSh1.7 billion, reflecting its position as one of Kenya’s largest supermarket chains.
Quickmart operated 68 stores across 16 counties as of June 30, 2026, before opening four additional outlets in July and August to bring its network to 72. The company also records more than five million customer transactions monthly and has approximately 2.5 million members in its Q-Points loyalty programme.
The IPO is structured as an offer for sale by Sokoni Retail Kenya Limited, Quickmart’s sole shareholder. Unlike a conventional capital-raising exercise, the transaction will not inject new money into Quickmart because the proceeds will go to the selling shareholder, which plans to retain a 50% stake if the offer is fully subscribed.
At KSh7.50 per share, the two-billion-share offer is valued at KSh15 billion. The minimum application is 500 shares, equivalent to KSh3,750, making the offer accessible to individual investors who meet the application requirements and have a valid Central Depository System (CDS) account. Applications can be submitted through the official IPO portal, Safaricom’s Ziidi Trader platform or the designated USSD service.
The listing is also expected to broaden public participation in Kenya’s capital markets by allowing investors to own part of a supermarket business serving millions of shoppers. However, investors must weigh the company’s financial performance and expansion plans against risks outlined in its Information Memorandum, including the possibility that share prices may fall after listing.
Quickmart intends to continue funding its store expansion primarily through internally generated cash flow, targeting 10 to 15 new outlets annually. The company’s planned NSE listing is expected on November 12, 2026, with offer results scheduled for November 6, subject to any approved changes to the timetable.
As the October 30 deadline approaches, investor demand and the final subscription results will determine how the shares are allocated across retail, institutional and other investor categories.
