A police officer wanted in connection with the killings of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has been arrested in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang was apprehended by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters after intelligence led officers to Eldoret town, where he had reportedly been hiding.

The arrest took place along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s Central Business District. Detectives intercepted Sang while he was driving a silver Toyota Fielder bearing registration number KCM 508L.

Investigators believe Sang was attempting to sell the vehicle to raise money for his upkeep when officers closed in on him. He was arrested at the scene before being taken to Eldoret Police Station for processing.

Sang had been on the run as detectives pursued leads in the two murder investigations. His arrest is expected to allow investigators to question him over his alleged connection to the killings and examine any information that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Detectives are also expected to establish whether the two cases are linked and whether other individuals may have played a role in the incidents.

The investigations will focus on gathering and examining evidence, including any information that could connect the suspect to the crimes. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the evidence against Sang or the circumstances surrounding the murders.

The arrest marks a significant development in the investigations involving Mbobu, a prominent Nairobi lawyer, and Dr Mutiso. Both cases have drawn attention because of the victims’ professional backgrounds and the efforts by detectives to identify those responsible.

Following his apprehension, Sang was escorted to Eldoret Police Station as investigators prepared the next steps in the legal process, including his expected arraignment in court.

Police have not provided further details on when he will appear in court or whether additional arrests are expected as the investigations continue.

Sang remains a suspect, and the allegations against him have yet to be tested in court. Investigators are expected to present their findings through the established legal process as they seek to establish responsibility for the two killings.
