Police in Borabu Sub-County, Nyamira County, are hunting a group of armed men who shot a 23-year-old man with an arrow as he walked home in Manga in the early hours of Monday, October 12, 2026.
The victim, identified as Nyangena, a resident of Manga House Village, was attacked at around 12:30 a.m., sustaining an arrow wound to the lower left side of his abdomen, slightly below the ribs.
A local resident heard someone screaming for help and upon opening his door, found the injured man in need of assistance. The victim reportedly told police that a group of unknown armed men had attacked him while he was on his way home.
He was rushed to Nyansiongo Mission Hospital, where he was admitted in fair condition.
Police officers who visited the scene recovered two arrows believed to have been used in the attack. The weapons were collected and preserved as exhibits as investigators began efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The suspects remained at large, with police continuing the search for those involved. The motive behind the assault had not been established by the time of reporting.
The latest incident comes amid previous reports of arrow attacks in Borabu. In August 2025, it was reported that a 44-year-old man was shot in the chest with an arrow during an alleged cattle-rustling raid in Ensabakwa, Esise area.
The attackers were reportedly targeting about ten cows when the man raised an alarm. He was taken to hospital in serious condition as the assailants escaped.
Although both incidents involved arrow attacks in Borabu, there is no confirmed link between them. Police investigations into the latest assault are ongoing as officers seek to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Residents are urged to avoid walking alone on isolated routes, especially at night, use busy, well-lit roads and inform family members of their movements. Anyone who spots armed or suspicious individuals should move to a safe place, alert the police immediately and avoid confronting them.
Anyone with information about the attack or could help identify the suspects should report it to the authorities to aid investigations.
