A suspected burglar believed to be behind a series of house break-ins in Tabuga and its surrounding areas in Nakuru County has been arrested, with police recovering several items suspected to have been stolen from different homes.
In a statement shared on its X account, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation that led to the recovery of household items, clothing and ammunition.
The operation was carried out by officers from Githioro Police Station, who raided the home of 27-year-old Calvin Okoli Ndimu in Free Area, Nakuru, following intelligence reports linking him to the reported burglaries.
According to the DCI, a search of the suspect’s house uncovered several items believed to have been stolen during a series of break-ins reported in the area over the past two months.
Among the items recovered were two 43-inch television screens, two television stands and three subwoofers. Officers also recovered assorted clothing, bedding and footwear suspected to have been taken from the affected homes.
During the search, detectives further recovered a pair of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle trousers, a homemade toy gun, one live round of ammunition and blank ammunition of calibre 7.62×51mm.
The recovery of the items marks a significant development in investigations into the burglary cases that have been reported in Tabuga and its environs in recent months.
The DCI said most of the recovered property had already been positively identified by its rightful owners, raising hopes that the affected residents would be able to recover their belongings.
However, investigators are continuing with inquiries to establish the full extent of the suspect’s alleged criminal activities. Police are also working to determine whether he could be linked to other burglary cases reported in the area.
The presence of ammunition among the recovered items has also been documented as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody as officers complete the necessary processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
The DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help security agencies prevent crime and apprehend suspects. The agency said information can be reported anonymously through its toll-free number, 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The investigation is expected to establish whether additional stolen property can be recovered and whether other people may have been involved in the alleged burglaries.
