Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are set to convene next Thursday to strategize on hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a prestigious football tournament that will be jointly hosted by the three East African nations. This development was disclosed by Kenya's Sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya, who highlighted the importance of the meeting in laying down a comprehensive roadmap for the event. Among the key issues to be discussed are visa and tax exemptions, which are crucial for facilitating smooth operations during the tournament.

Speaking from his Talanta Office in Nairobi, Mvurya emphasized Kenya's dedication to delivering a world-class AFCON event. His remarks came during a meeting with the new Confederation of African Football (CAF) Acting Secretary General, Samson Adamu. Mvurya reiterated the Kenyan government's commitment to ensuring the success of the tournament, stating, "There are a number of decisions we will be making next week because we will be having a Pamoja meeting that will bring together Ministers to discuss matters such as visas, tax exemptions, and many others, with CAF being the key facilitator of the event. We will be announcing the roadmap that will guide the three East African countries towards AFCON 2027."

During the meeting, Mvurya took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Adamu on his new role as Acting General Secretary. Adamu previously served as CAF's Director of Competitions, a role in which he gained extensive experience in organizing major football events across the continent. Mvurya expressed confidence in Adamu's ability to contribute significantly to the success of the 2027 AFCON.

In addition to the discussions with Adamu, the meeting also included the official handover ceremony for the 2027 AFCON Chair, Nicholas Musonye, and the incoming CEO, Antony Lungaho. Mvurya commended the leadership team for their roles in preparing for the tournament. He also praised the CHAN 2025 team, led by CEO Mike Rabar, for their exemplary work in organizing a successful tournament that showcased Kenya's capability to host international events with professionalism and excellence.

The upcoming meeting between Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda is expected to set the stage for a collaborative effort in hosting the AFCON 2027, with the three nations working together to ensure the tournament's success and to further enhance their standing on the continental and global stage.
