Kilifi Governor Gedion Mung’aro has lauded his administration's performance over the past three years, attributing the achievements to increased revenue allocation and improved service delivery. Speaking during his State of the County address at the County Assembly in Malindi, Mung’aro detailed the strides made in healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance, underscoring the positive impact of these developments on the county's growth.

Governor Mung’aro highlighted the significant rise in the county's own source of revenue, which increased from Ksh1,003 billion in the 2022/2023 financial year to Ksh1,209 billion in 2023/2024, and further to Ksh1,513 billion in 2024/2025. He attributed this growth to strategic measures, including plans to install security cameras at all revenue collection points. The governor projected that once these systems are fully operational, revenue collection could increase by 100%, while the cost of administration is expected to decrease by about 50%.

In the healthcare sector, Mung’aro noted a remarkable increase in revenue collection, which grew from Ksh100 million to over Ksh550 million annually. This improvement, he said, was largely due to the digitisation and automation of hospital systems. The governor also reported the renovation of 21 healthcare facilities, the opening of new dispensaries, the promotion of more than 957 healthcare workers, and the hiring of 191 new staff members, all contributing to enhanced healthcare services in the county.

Healthcare sector improvements

Water distribution in Kilifi has also seen progress, improving from 65% coverage in 2022 to 69% in 2025. This has been supported by the construction of a 744-kilometre pipeline, 49 boreholes, and 12 water pans, which have collectively enhanced access to clean water for residents.

In the education sector, Mung’aro highlighted the county's efforts to support students through scholarships, with 2,122 students benefiting from full scholarships to national schools. Additionally, a school feeding programme has significantly boosted enrolment, increasing the number of learners from 46,935 in 2023/2024 to 57,802 in 2025. The county has also invested in early childhood education, targeting 1,100 ECDE teachers and equipping 406 centres with digital devices.

Education initiatives and support

Tourism in Kilifi has also experienced growth, with the governor noting that the county now hosts 32 fully developed markets. The 2024 Kilifi Investment Conference held in Vipingo was a notable success, unlocking over US$1.1 billion in capital flow, further cementing Kilifi's position as a key investment destination.

Tourism and investment growth

Governor Mung’aro's address painted a picture of a county on the rise, with strategic initiatives across various sectors driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for its residents.
