A man has been charged at the Moyale Magistrates’ Court in Marsabit County with possession of narcotic drugs and having a pistol magazine and holster without a firearm certificate.
Mohamed Amin appeared before Resident Magistrate Hon. Kombe, where he denied all three charges brought against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court heard that Amin was arrested on October 7, 2026, alongside another man, Ahmed Abdulahi, during an operation by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Moyale town.
The two were travelling in a white Toyota Prado, registration number KAR 555M, when they were intercepted by the officers.
According to the prosecution, subsequent investigations established that Abdulahi was a passenger in the vehicle and was not linked to any criminal offence. He was consequently released, while Amin remained the subject of investigations over the alleged possession of the prohibited items.
Amin, who was identified as the owner of the vehicle, was allegedly found in possession of narcotic drugs, an empty pistol magazine and a pistol holster without a firearm certificate. The charges relate to the alleged possession of the drugs and firearm accessories, although no firearm was mentioned in the particulars provided.
During investigations, Amin reportedly told investigators that he had purchased the vehicle in Ethiopia under a hire-purchase arrangement and was making monthly instalment payments towards its acquisition.
After denying the charges, the accused was released on bond of Ksh. 150,000 with one surety of a similar amount. Alternatively, the court granted him a cash bail option of Ksh. 50,000, subject to providing two contact persons.
The case is scheduled for mention on November 3, 2026, when the court is expected to issue pre-trial directions and set a date for the hearing.
The prosecution is being led by Joseph Mburugu, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) and County Head of Prosecutions in Marsabit.
