A motorbike rider has died following a head-on collision involving a lorry along the Kabarnet–Kabartonjo Road in Baringo County early Friday morning.

The fatal accident occurred in the Kator area, where the motorcycle reportedly collided with the oncoming lorry, leaving the rider dead.

According to eyewitness Daniel Kibet, the motorcyclist was allegedly travelling at high speed and attempted to overtake another vehicle before losing control and colliding head-on with the lorry.

The exact circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been established, as police have launched investigations to determine what happened.

Officers from Kabarnet Police Station visited the scene following the accident and commenced investigations into the incident. Police are expected to establish the sequence of events that led to the collision and determine the circumstances surrounding the rider’s death.

The rider’s body was later moved to the mortuary at Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet, where it awaits further procedures.

The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety concerns along the Kabarnet–Kabartonjo route, which has sections with sharp bends that require motorists to exercise caution.

Drivers using the road have been urged to observe traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and avoid dangerous overtaking manoeuvres, particularly in areas where bends and limited visibility may increase the risk of collisions.

Motorists have also been reminded that speeding and attempting to overtake without ensuring the road ahead is clear can put their lives and those of other road users at risk.

Road safety remains a shared responsibility among motorists, motorcyclists and other road users. Observing speed limits, maintaining safe following distances and making careful decisions when overtaking can help reduce the risk of serious accidents.

Police investigations into the fatal collision are ongoing, and further details may emerge as officers work to establish the cause of the crash.

The incident serves as a reminder to motorists using the route to exercise caution and prioritise safety to prevent further loss of life on the roads.
