A man is alleged to have killed his wife and one of their children following a family dispute in Shauri Yako, Mkomani, Nyali, Mombasa.
According to a police report filed at Kongowea Police Station, the suspect, identified as Richard Matiko, allegedly attacked his wife and children before killing his wife and one of the children.
Police said the suspect later allegedly placed the child’s body inside a pit latrine.
He reportedly attempted to dispose of his wife’s body in the same manner but was unable to do so because of its weight.
Another child, a 14-year-old, managed to escape despite sustaining injuries during the incident.
The teenager was later assisted by a Good Samaritan, who took the child to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
The suspect later surrendered himself to police at Nyali Police Station.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Coast General mortuary pending postmortem examinations and further procedures.
Police have launched investigations into the incident as they work to establish the circumstances and the motive behind the suspected family dispute.
