A man has been arraigned before the Ndhiwa Principal Magistrate’s Court over the alleged murder of a businesswoman he is said to have been in a relationship with.
The accused, John Osodo, is alleged to have killed Joyse Aoko Akumu, a businesswoman from Rongo town in Migori County.
According to an affidavit sworn by Stanslous Mwita, a police officer attached to Ndhiwa Police Station, the incident allegedly occurred between the night of September 18 and the morning of September 19, 2026.
The court heard that Osodo and Akumu travelled from Sori Town in Migori County to Ndhiwa on the evening of September 18.
Police investigations indicate that the two arrived in Ndhiwa Town and checked into Turphy Guest House at around 7:40pm, where Osodo allegedly booked a room using his M-Pesa-registered phone number.
After checking into the guest house, the two reportedly left the room and spent much of the night drinking alcohol before returning to their accommodation.
The following morning, Akumu’s body was discovered at the entrance of the guest house by attendants.
Police told the court that preliminary investigations suggested the body had been dragged from the room to the entrance, raising suspicion that the killing occurred inside the guest house.
Osodo is alleged to have left the premises at an unknown time and went into hiding before he was arrested several days later.
Ndhiwa Principal Magistrate Phylis Shinyada ordered that Osodo be detained for 14 days to allow police to complete investigations into the alleged murder.
The accused has not yet been required to enter a plea to the murder charge as investigations continue.
