Detectives have arrested a man suspected of operating a Facebook page under a pseudonym that is under investigation over alleged online incitement.

The suspect, identified as Festus Kipkirui, alias Festoo, was arrested in Mararianda, Narok East, Narok County, in an operation conducted by a joint team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters Operations Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).

According to the DCI, Kipkirui is suspected of operating a Facebook page using the name Kipz Prince en Narok, which is being investigated over reports of online incitement.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged offence, including the specific content that prompted the investigation, have not been disclosed.

The suspect is undergoing police processing ahead of his anticipated arraignment in court, where he is expected to face relevant charges.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by detectives to investigate online activities suspected of threatening public order, national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

The DCI has urged members of the public to exercise responsibility when communicating on social media platforms, warning against publishing or sharing content that promotes hatred, division or incitement.

The agency has also encouraged Kenyans to report information that could assist law enforcement officers in investigating suspected criminal activities.

Under its Fichua Kwa DCI initiative, members of the public can provide information anonymously through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The latest arrest highlights the growing attention law enforcement agencies are giving to online platforms as channels of communication, particularly where content is suspected of encouraging hostility or undermining peaceful coexistence.

Social media platforms have become important tools for public engagement and information sharing, but authorities continue to caution users against communications that may violate the law.

The DCI has reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities through digital platforms.

However, the allegations against Kipkirui remain unproven, and he will have an opportunity to respond to them through the judicial process.
