Members of the Luo community in Mombasa, specifically from the four wards of Nyali Constituency, have thrown their support behind Pauline Oginga, the sister of the late Raila Odinga, for the parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election. The endorsement was made during a significant meeting held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Nyali. This gathering, which served both as a condolence visit and a political endorsement, brought together community leaders, elders, and residents from Frere Town, Kongowea, Kadzandani, and Ziwa la Ng’ombe wards.
The community leaders praised Ms. Oginga's commitment to public service and her track record in various government roles since 2020. They highlighted her leadership skills and dedication to community empowerment as key reasons for their support. "We believe she has the capacity and experience to champion the interests of residents and advance the development agenda of the constituency," one of the community leaders stated, reflecting the collective sentiment of those present.
This endorsement is seen as a significant boost for Ms. Oginga, who had publicly declared her interest in the Nyali parliamentary seat months earlier. In an April interview with political analyst Prof Herman Manyora, she expressed her intention to run in the 2027 general election, driven by a desire to contribute to the development of the area through elective leadership.
The meeting also provided a platform for discussions on pressing issues such as development, youth empowerment, and social cohesion within the constituency. Participants emphasized the importance of inclusivity and representation in local politics, suggesting that Ms. Oginga's candidacy could bring about positive change.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Oginga expressed her gratitude for the community's support and the condolence visit following her brother's passing. "I am humbled by the support shown by the community," she said, pledging to continue serving the residents diligently and to remain accessible to the people of Nyali. Her commitment to being a responsive and effective leader resonated with those in attendance, further solidifying her position as a strong contender for the parliamentary seat.
The endorsement marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Nyali Constituency, as the community rallies behind a candidate they believe can effectively represent their interests and drive development in the region.
