Police in Mombasa have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of involvement in a series of violent robberies in Likoni, recovering a machete during the operation.
The suspect, identified as David Wali, popularly known as Maximilla, was arrested in Maka Estate, Timbwani, following intelligence gathered by police and information provided by members of the public.
According to police, Wali is suspected to be a member of a criminal gang linked to several armed attacks in the area.
Investigators believe he may have been involved in a number of robbery incidents reported within Likoni and its surroundings.
Among the cases being investigated is a recent attack on a teacher from Likoni Excellence Primary School. The teacher was reportedly assaulted in broad daylight and sustained serious injuries during the incident.
Police say the suspect is also linked to other violent robbery cases reported at Shelly Beach Police Station.
However, investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of his alleged involvement in the incidents.
During a search conducted after his arrest, officers allegedly recovered a machete that had been concealed around his waist.
Police are expected to use the recovered weapon as part of their investigations into the reported attacks.
Wali is currently being held at Shelly Beach Police Station as officers prepare to arraign him in court.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the specific charges he is expected to face.
Police have called on residents of Likoni to continue providing information that could assist in identifying and arresting other suspects believed to be involved in criminal activities.
Residents who have fallen victim to robbery have also been urged to visit Shelly Beach Police Station and record statements to help investigators establish links between reported incidents.
