The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in collaboration with the National Treasury, has clarified that both Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS) invoices are accommodated under the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) integration, easing concerns among suppliers doing business with government entities.
In a public notice dated October 15, 2026, KRA said the integration supports the validation of tax invoices generated through either eTIMS or TIMS before they proceed through the government payment process.
The clarification seeks to address concerns over invoice acceptance under the integrated system, which links tax invoice verification with government financial management and payment processes.
According to KRA, the integration is designed to improve transparency and accountability in government transactions, streamline invoice validation and strengthen tax compliance through automated verification of tax invoices.
The authority said all suppliers conducting business with government entities can submit valid eTIMS and TIMS invoices, provided they meet the applicable invoice validation requirements before proceeding through the IFMIS payment workflow.
The clarification is significant for businesses supplying goods and services to government institutions, as invoice validation is a key step in processing payments. Under the integrated arrangement, invoices must undergo the required checks before payments can proceed.
KRA and the National Treasury said they remain committed to supporting government entities and suppliers in implementing and effectively using the integrated solution. The two institutions said the system is intended to facilitate smoother invoice validation, improve tax compliance and support the timely processing of legitimate supplier payments.
The integration brings together tax invoice management and government financial management processes, allowing invoice information to be checked as part of the payment workflow. The authorities expect this to strengthen accountability while helping ensure that supplier payments are processed in line with the applicable requirements.
Suppliers seeking clarification or assistance have been advised to contact the KRA Contact Centre through telephone numbers 020 4 999 999 or 0711 099 999, or by email at callcentre@kra.go.ke.
The notice was issued by the Commissioner for Micro and Small Taxpayers, reaffirming that both valid eTIMS and TIMS invoices are recognised under the integrated system, subject to the relevant validation requirements.
