A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Kitui County has been arrested in connection with a series of alleged mobile phone thefts reported in Nairobi's Central Business District between August and September 2026.

Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station along Mfangano Street following investigations into three separate incidents.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives acted on intelligence that led them to the MCA, who had been under investigation over the reported thefts.

CCTV footage played a key role in the investigations by helping detectives identify the suspect in connection with the incidents.

His arrest has also brought attention to a separate case in which he is wanted over an outstanding warrant of arrest issued after he allegedly failed to attend court.

The warrant relates to Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024, in which Musyoka had been charged with stealing before the Makadara Law Courts.

The DCI said the MCA had been released on bond in the case but subsequently failed to appear in court which contributed in leading to the outstanding warrant.

Musyoka is currently being held in custody as detectives complete processing ahead of his arraignment.

The latest arrest follows investigations into the reported thefts, although further details about the victims, the phones allegedly stolen and the circumstances of each incident have not been disclosed.

The DCI reiterated that public officials and other members of society are subject to the law, regardless of their positions.

The agency said detectives would continue pursuing leads and presenting suspects before the courts to answer to allegations of criminal conduct.

The public has also been urged to report information that could assist investigations through the DCI's toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.

The agency said the reporting channels allow members of the public to share information anonymously.
