The discovery was made on Friday, October 16, a day after the learner was reported missing, bringing a tragic turn to the search.
Police officers from Nyanchwa Police Station retrieved the body from the river before transferring it to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending further investigations.

Detectives are expected to piece together the events leading to the discovery of the body and determine how the learner ended up in the river.
Investigators will also seek to establish where the student was last seen and the circumstances under which the learner went missing.
The cause of death is yet to be established, and authorities are expected to rely on further investigations, including a postmortem examination, to help determine what happened.

Parents are also encouraged to maintain regular communication with their children, establish clear arrangements for their journeys and promptly report any unexplained disappearance to the relevant authorities.
Schools and members of the local community can also play a role by sharing credible information with investigators that may help clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police are expected to continue pursuing leads as they work to establish the facts surrounding the student's death.
However, no conclusions have been made regarding the circumstances of the incident, and further details are expected as investigations progress.
The body remains at the hospital mortuary pending further procedures as the family and the local community await answers over the tragic incident.
