Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced that Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret will open its gates at 5am on Tuesday, October 20, ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations, with attendees required to be seated by 8am.
Omollo said eight entry points had been established at the stadium to facilitate the movement of people attending the national celebrations, as organisers finalise arrangements for the event.
Addressing journalists at the stadium on Monday, October 19, the Interior PS said the early opening time was part of the arrangements to ensure attendees enter the venue and settle into their designated areas before the programme begins.
He also announced that a holding ground had been prepared at the stadium for Very Important Persons (VIPs) and Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs), while traffic arrangements had been put in place to support movement around the venue.
The announcement comes as Eldoret prepares to host the national Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Uasin Gishu County.
The national event will be jointly hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, marking the first time the three counties are co-hosting the celebrations.
Omollo said celebrations would not be limited to the main venue in Eldoret, adding that other counties would also hold their own events at their respective headquarters.
The eight entry points are expected to help manage the arrival of attendees, while the 5am opening will give members of the public an opportunity to access the stadium well before the 8am seating deadline.
Those planning to attend the celebrations will therefore need to factor in the early opening time and allow sufficient time to reach the venue, enter through the designated points and take their seats before the programme starts.
Mashujaa Day is observed annually on October 20 to honour Kenyans who have contributed to the country’s independence, development and progress. This year’s national celebrations will take place in Eldoret, with the three co-hosting counties playing a central role in the event.
With the celebrations scheduled for Tuesday, organisers have outlined entry, seating and traffic arrangements as they prepare to receive attendees at the stadium.
