Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is targeting more than 200 investors at an international sustainable energy conference scheduled for November 24–27 in Olkaria, Naivasha, as it seeks to mobilise financing for renewable energy projects across Africa.
The third KenGen Sustainable Energy Conference is expected to attract more than 1,500 delegates from over 80 countries, including financiers, electricity producers and project developers. The gathering will focus on connecting investors with opportunities in the continent’s renewable energy sector.
KenGen Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kibet Ronoh said the conference aims to turn Africa’s renewable energy potential into bankable projects capable of supporting industrial growth.
The meeting is expected to focus on investment mobilisation, project development, carbon trading and strategic partnerships, areas considered important in developing and financing clean energy infrastructure.
Africa has significant renewable energy resources, but translating this potential into operational projects requires financing, technical expertise and partnerships between governments, private investors and energy companies. The conference is intended to provide a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities and discuss how projects can attract investment.
The participation of financiers and project developers is particularly important because renewable energy projects often require substantial upfront capital before they begin generating returns. Investors must assess factors such as project viability, financing arrangements and the expected demand for electricity.
Carbon trading is also among the conference’s focus areas, reflecting growing interest in mechanisms that can support emissions reduction initiatives and create additional opportunities for eligible clean energy projects.
KenGen’s investor outreach comes as African economies seek to expand energy access, improve electricity reliability and support industrial development while increasing the use of cleaner energy sources.
By bringing together international stakeholders, the company aims to encourage partnerships that can help move renewable energy proposals from planning to implementation.
The conference will provide an opportunity for project developers, financiers and energy producers to engage on investment priorities and potential collaborations. Its outcome will depend on whether discussions translate into concrete financing commitments and viable projects capable of delivering long-term economic and energy benefits.
