The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has warned members of the public against fake recruitment advertisements circulating online, clarifying that no recruitment exercise is currently underway.
In its advisory, KDF urged Kenyans to disregard misleading information about recruitment and rely only on official communication channels for accurate updates on available vacancies.
The military said genuine recruitment announcements are published through mainstream media, the Ministry of Defence website and official KDF social media platforms.
The warning follows the circulation of a purported Kenya Gazette notice announcing KDF recruitment for the 2026/2027 financial year. The notice lists several positions, including General Service Officers, combatants, non-combatants, tradesmen and women, and specialists.
It also gives purported application dates running from October 28 to November 27, 2026, and outlines academic qualifications and other eligibility requirements.
However, KDF has cautioned the public against relying on such unofficial recruitment information.
Members of the public are advised to verify any recruitment announcement through the Ministry of Defence's official website, www.mod.go.ke, and verified KDF social media accounts before taking action.
The public is also urged to remain vigilant against fraudsters who may exploit job seekers by demanding money or personal information under the guise of facilitating recruitment.
KDF recruitment opportunities are highly sought after by young Kenyans, making false advertisements a potential avenue for financial exploitation.
The military has reiterated the importance of obtaining recruitment information from authorised sources and avoiding unverified links, messages and social media posts.
Kenyans seeking to join the Defence Forces should wait for an official announcement before submitting applications or sharing personal documents.
The advisory also serves as a reminder to report suspicious recruitment offers to the relevant authorities. Applicants should be cautious of individuals promising guaranteed selection, as KDF recruitment follows established procedures and does not require payment to secure employment.
The clarification is intended to prevent confusion and protect prospective applicants from falling victim to recruitment scams.
