Residents of Makunga Market in Tongaren, Bungoma County, and surrounding areas were severely affected by heavy rains and strong winds on Tuesday evening.
The downpour caused extensive damage, with several residential houses and business premises reportedly collapsing.
Police officers’ residential quarters at Makunga Police Station were also damaged after strong winds blew off the roofs.
One police officer, a corporal, narrowly escaped death when his house collapsed.
Residents in the area rescued him.
The affected residents are now facing difficult living conditions and are appealing for urgent assistance from the Bungoma County Government.
