Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has penned an emotional birthday message to his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, reflecting on their 37-year marriage, the challenges they have faced and what he described as blessings received over the past two years.
In a heartfelt message shared on Sunday, Gachagua celebrated his wife while recalling the political turmoil that surrounded them two years ago, when he said the couple had been humiliated by a man they had sacrificed everything to help rise to power.
“Happy birthday, my gal! It’s yet another year filled with grace and favour,” Gachagua wrote.
Emotional birthday message
The former deputy president used the occasion to reflect on how their circumstances had changed since the events of two years ago, expressing gratitude for what he described as renewed happiness within their family and growing acceptance by Kenyans.
Two years ago, he said, the family marked Dorcas's birthday while dealing with shock following what he termed their humiliation and disgrace by a leader they had supported.
However, Gachagua said the period that followed had brought the family numerous blessings and unexpected favour, adding that they were now celebrating in a happier place.
Reflections on past challenges
“Today, as we celebrate your birthday, we thank God that we are a very happy family. Over the past two years, we have received countless blessings from God, as well as inexplicable favour and acceptance from the people of Kenya,” he said.
Gachagua's message also carried a political undertone, with the former deputy president referring to plans to return home and intensify what he described as the final phase of the country's liberation.
“As we prepare to travel back home and engage the final gear in the liberation of our country,” he wrote, before making a promise to his wife about a future birthday celebration.
He pledged to organise what he described as the biggest birthday party ever for Dorcas at the country's most coveted address, an apparent reference to his aspirations and political ambitions.
Plans for future celebrations
The former deputy president emphasised that he intended to fulfil the promise, drawing on the longevity of their marriage as evidence of his commitment.
“In our 37 years of marriage, I have made you many promises and kept most of them. This is one promise I SHALL honour and MUST honour,” he said.
The message combines a personal tribute to Dorcas with a reflection on the couple's political experiences and Gachagua's stated plans for the future.
Dorcas has maintained a public profile through her advocacy on issues affecting widows, vulnerable families and young people, including initiatives aimed at supporting women and communities facing social and economic challenges.
