Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the killing of livestock during a security operation in Samburu County, accusing the government of targeting the Maa community.
Speaking in Dallas, Texas, during his ongoing tour of the United States, Gachagua accused President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of undermining the Maa community, describing the alleged actions as unjust and oppressive.
Murkomen earlier acknowledged that livestock had been killed during a recent security operation in Samburu.
The Interior CS said the government was intensifying operations in Samburu and Isiolo to recover illegal firearms and stolen livestock, dismantle criminal networks and restore peace.
Murkomen said security agencies had been directed to exercise maximum caution to minimise collateral damage during the operations.
He maintained that the government would not relent in its efforts to combat banditry, citing the recovery of more than 3,000 illegal firearms and 8,000 rounds of ammunition in parts of the Kerio Valley and Northern Kenya.
