Four people have been injured following a head-on collision involving a Toyota Prado and a fuel tanker along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

The accident occurred between Kiboko and Masimba markets, with the four victims sustaining injuries before being rushed to Makindu Level Four Hospital for treatment.

Masimba Traffic Base Commander Zachary Ndiritu confirmed the incident, saying the Toyota Prado was travelling towards Nairobi when it collided head-on with the oncoming fuel tanker.

The injured occupants of the Prado were taken to the hospital, where they are receiving medical attention. Their current condition had not been immediately disclosed.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the collision, including how the two vehicles came to collide on the busy highway.

The Mombasa-Nairobi Highway is a major transport corridor connecting the Port of Mombasa to Nairobi and other parts of the country.

Accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles can pose significant risks to motorists and other road users because of the size and weight of the vehicles involved.

Police are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash as investigations continue.

Motorists using the highway have been urged to exercise caution, maintain safe following distances and avoid dangerous overtaking, particularly along busy sections shared by heavy trucks and smaller vehicles.

The latest crash comes amid a series of fatal accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles and other motorists along the highway.

On October 3, at least 17 people were killed in a multiple-vehicle collision at Salama in Makueni County.

The crash involved a lorry, a Toyota Hiace carrying Catholic pilgrims travelling from Mombasa to the Subukia Shrine in Nakuru, and several other vehicles.

Days earlier, on September 26, one person died and four others were seriously injured after a truck overturned onto a smaller vehicle at Kiboko.

The occupants of the car were reportedly trapped in the wreckage as members of the public rushed to help before emergency responders arrived.

On September 24, two people were killed and six others seriously injured when a Dreamline bus carrying 52 passengers rammed into a stationary trailer transporting a shipping container near Taru and Mackinnon Road.

The highway also experienced major traffic disruption on October 1 following a collision between two trailers in the Kapiti Plains area.

The crash blocked both lanes, leaving motorists stranded for hours along a stretch between Malili and Machakos Junction.

The incidents have renewed attention on road safety along the highway, a key route connecting the Port of Mombasa to Nairobi and other parts of the country.

The road carries large volumes of passenger traffic and heavy trucks transporting cargo inland.
