Police have arrested four suspects and seized cannabis, illicit alcohol and suspected counterfeit cigarettes in separate anti-narcotics operations in Kisii, Kitui and Kajiado counties.
In Riosiri, Kisii County, detectives arrested Amos Mogere Omari following a tip-off from a member of the public that led officers to his house, where they recovered 1.63 kilogrammes of cannabis, 70 litres of chang’aa, 14 packets of Supermarch cigarettes and nine packets of Oris cigarettes suspected to be counterfeit. Officers also seized a box of cigarette-rolling materials.
The suspect was taken into custody pending arraignment.
In Kitui County, a multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Kanyonyoo along the Thika–Garissa Highway intercepted a passenger bus travelling from Nairobi towards Garissa.
A search of passengers and their luggage led to the recovery of 30 rolls of bhang and a packet of Rizla rolling papers from a backpack belonging to Dominic Mweu Kimanzi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kimanzi had allegedly purchased the consignment in Gatitu, Thika, and was transporting it to Ukasi Market in Mwingi East for sale. He was arrested and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station.
Meanwhile, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kajiado South, working alongside officers from Kimana Police Station, intercepted a white Toyota Sienta along the Oloitoktok–Emali Road following a tip-off.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of four sacks of bhang. Three occupants — Daniel Momanyi Mongare, Samwuel Kasane and Mercy Naserian — were arrested in connection with the consignment.
The DCI says it will continue pursuing suspected drug traffickers and dealers through intelligence-led operations, collaboration among security agencies and information from members of the public, as authorities seek to disrupt networks involved in the distribution of narcotics and illicit substances.
The government has intensified its war on drugs, targeting trafficking networks, disrupting supply chains and strengthening enforcement efforts to protect communities, particularly young people, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
