A five-year-old boy has died after a fire broke out at a house in Igego Village, Kisii Central Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Omonyi, was reportedly asleep in his grandfather’s house when the fire broke out in the early hours of the day.
Residents and emergency responders attempted to rescue the boy, but their efforts were unsuccessful as he was burnt beyond recognition.
His remains have since been moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and further procedures.
Police officers from Kiogoro Police Station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, visited the scene and launched investigations.
Authorities are seeking to establish the cause of the fire and whether it was deliberately started.
