Police have arrested five suspects and seized several consignments of cannabis sativa in coordinated anti-narcotics operations conducted in Busia, Homa Bay, Kitui, Murang’a and Wajir, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced.
In a statement shared on its X page, the DCI said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug trafficking networks across the five counties.
In Busia, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) intercepted Abubakar Omar Rajab at the main bus stage as he prepared to board a Nairobi-bound bus. A search of his black bag uncovered a large bale of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow cello tape. He was arrested and taken to Busia Police Station for processing ahead of his arraignment.
In Homa Bay, detectives raided a residential house in Rodi Township suspected of being used to store illicit drugs. The operation led to the recovery of 64 rolls of bhang and the arrest of Elijah Ochieng Alfred, who remains in custody pending arraignment.
Meanwhile, a multi-agency team operating a roadblock at Kivandini along the Thika–Garissa Highway intercepted a public service vehicle travelling from Nairobi towards Mwingi. Officers searching passengers discovered 325 rolls of cannabis sativa concealed in a jacket belonging to Nicholas Mathumbi Kitati. He was arrested and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station.
In Murang’a County, officers from Kigumo Police Station arrested Evans Karanja Mwaura in Kangari Township following a tip-off. A search of his silver Toyota Fielder yielded 150 rolls of bhang and assorted rolling papers. The recovered items were secured as exhibits, while the vehicle was detained as investigations continued.
In Wajir, detectives arrested Abdnasir Jelle and recovered ten bales of cannabis sativa. He remained in police custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment.
The DCI said the operations form part of its continued efforts to disrupt narcotics supply networks and bring suspected traffickers to justice.
The agency urged members of the public to report suspected criminal activities anonymously through its toll-free line, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000, under its #FichuaKwaDCI campaign.
