Kenyan-born comedian and content creator Elsa Majimbo says she has never used drugs, after strangers labelled her a “junkie.” She says she spoke out to make the truth clear to young people who look up to her.
Elsa Majimbo has publicly rejected claims about her alleged drug use, saying strangers have called her a “junkie” despite her never having taken drugs.
The comedian said she had “never done drugs” and added “Not once.” She also pushed back against people judging her mental health based on how she dresses or chooses to live.
“Dressing how I want and doing what I want doesn’t make me mentally unwell,” she wrote.
Majimbo said the accusations mattered to her partly because young people follow her and may look to her as a role model. She used the message to discourage drug use and encourage her audience to stay in school and treat others with kindness.
“It’s such a shame because so many young minds look up to me. Drugs are not cool. Stay in school. Be kind. Love Elsa,” she said.
She later explained that she was not posting to invite sympathy. Majimbo said she considers herself blessed and does not see herself as a victim. Her stated reason for addressing the rumours was to make clear to young followers that the allegations were untrue and that she does not encourage drug use.
The post also challenges a broader pattern of speculation about public figures, in which appearance or personal choices can be treated as evidence of substance use or poor mental health. Majimbo’s message draws a distinction between how a person dresses and their wellbeing, rejecting the idea that one can be used to diagnose the other.
Majimbo became widely known during the COVID-19 pandemic, when her short comedy videos spread across social media.
Her humour, direct delivery and recognisable style helped her build an international audience and secure brand collaborations. Most media describes her as a Kenyan-born content creator and chess champion.
Her latest statement combines a personal denial with advice aimed at her younger audience. Rather than allow the rumours to stand without response, she used her platform to address them directly and close with a message about education, kindness and avoiding drugs.
