CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has confirmed Kenya will co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations putting to rest speculation over its role in the tournament.
Speaking at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi on Monday May 11, 2026, Dr Motsepe said Kenya would stage the continent’s biggest football showpiece alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the joint “Pamoja” bid.
“Kenya is amongst the three nations that will host next year’s AFCON… the biggest sporting event on African soil,” he said, in a statement released by CAF.
The tournament, set for June 19 to July 17, 2027, will be the first time AFCON is hosted by three countries and the first time it returns to East Africa since 1976.
The president praised the region’s progress, noting that Kenya recently secured its status by finalizing hosting fees and fast-tracking infrastructure upgrades.
He is in Nairobi to inspect key venues, including Talanta Sports Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The “Pamoja” bid Swahili for “together” was awarded in 2023, marking a landmark moment for regional integration through sport.
