Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been hospitalised after collapsing while watching the club's reserve team train on Friday, with the German champions confirming that he is undergoing medical examinations.
The 40-year-old former Manchester City and Belgium defender is reported to be in a stable condition, according to reports in Germany.
In a statement, Bayern Munich said Kompany required medical attention after collapsing during a training session involving the club's second team.
The club added that the first-team coach was watching the session when the incident occurred and would remain under medical care as doctors conduct thorough examinations.
"Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure his speedy recovery," said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl.
Eberl added that Kompany was receiving the necessary medical care and support, assuring that he would be given all the time he needed to recover.
The club confirmed that Kompany's coaching staff would take charge of training sessions and match preparations until further notice.
The incident comes days after Kompany missed a pre-match news conference ahead of Bayern's UEFA Champions League encounter against Arsenal because he was reportedly suffering from a virus.
Despite his illness, the Belgian was on the touchline for Wednesday's Champions League match against Arsenal, raising questions about his fitness.
German football journalist Taufig Khalil told BBC Radio 5 Live that Kompany had been unwell for about a week, with symptoms reportedly noticeable during Bayern's match against Leipzig the previous weekend.
Khalil said the club had initially attributed the coach's absence from media duties to a viral infection.
Reports also indicated that a helicopter was involved in the emergency response at Bayern's training ground, although Kompany was transported to hospital by medical vehicle rather than by air.
Bayern's next fixture is against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, with the coaching staff expected to oversee preparations in Kompany's absence.
Messages of support have also come from Kompany's former clubs, Manchester City and Burnley.
Manchester City, where Kompany spent 11 years as a player and captained the side to several major honours, wished their former captain a speedy recovery.
Burnley also expressed its best wishes to the Belgian, who left the English club to take charge of Bayern in May 2024.
Kompany won the Championship with Burnley in the 2022-23 season before the club was relegated from the Premier League the following campaign. Despite that setback, Bayern appointed him as successor to Thomas Tuchel.
Since taking charge at the German club, Kompany has guided Bayern to Bundesliga titles and led the side to the 2025-26 Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.
During his playing career at Manchester City, he won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
Bayern have not announced when Kompany is expected to return to his coaching duties, saying his health and recovery remain the immediate priority.
