Kisii Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati has visited party leader Oburu Oginga as he continues recovering at his Nairobi residence following his discharge from Nairobi hospital on Monday, October 19.

Arati shared a photograph of the meeting on Thursday, October 22, through ODM’s official social media platforms, offering a glimpse of the Siaya Senator as he recuperates.

In his message, Arati conveyed greetings from himself and Oburu to ODM members and supporters, while announcing the party’s planned engagement in Turkana County on Friday, October 23.

“Receive warm greetings from DPL Simba N’etaya and the Pawaa-man himself, PL Dr Oburu Oginga! Inshallah, kesho tukutane Turkana county kama Chama Kubwa!” Arati said in the message accompanying the photograph.

The visit comes as Oburu, 83, recovers after being discharged from Nairobi Hospital on Monday following a period of treatment.

The ODM leader was discharged in the morning and is recuperating at his Nairobi home, where he has been advised to rest before resuming public engagements.

A source close to the senator told a publication that he remained under medical monitoring and that visitors had been cautioned against flocking to his residence while he recovers.

Oburu’s hospitalisation had drawn public attention, particularly because of his absence from key political engagements, including activities marking the first anniversary of the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on October 15.

On that occasion, Oburu communicated that his doctors had directed him to observe strict bed rest and avoid public appearances as he recovered. He also assured party members that ODM’s operations would continue despite his temporary absence from public activities.

The party leader’s recovery has coincided with ongoing ODM mobilisation activities as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Arati, one of ODM’s deputy party leaders, has been among the senior officials involved in party activities as Oburu takes time away from public engagements.

In September, Oburu said the party had structures capable of managing its daily operations during his absence, identifying Arati and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir as his deputies responsible for helping steer the movement alongside its national leadership organs.

The planned Turkana engagement on Friday is part of the party’s continued outreach beyond its traditional strongholds.

Oburu’s recovery remains the immediate concern, with reports indicating that he is expected to resume public engagements after receiving clearance from his doctors.
