Former Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has taken charge of Kenya Police FC ahead of their SportPesa Premier League clash against Mombasa United on Sunday, October 25, following the departure of head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant John Baraza.

Akhulia led the Law Enforcers’ training session on Thursday, October 22, as they prepared for the encounter at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, with the former Kenya Under-20 coach expected to serve on an interim basis.

His appointment was reported by Mozzart Sport Kenya, although Kenya Police FC had not publicly announced the terms of his engagement at the time of reporting.

The coaching changes came after Muyoti and Baraza left their positions on Wednesday, October 21, following a difficult start to the 2026/27 league campaign.

The club said the two coaches had requested to pursue CAF A coaching qualifications and that it had agreed to release them to advance their professional development.

However, reports surrounding their departure have differed, with Muyoti indicating that the decision to leave was communicated to the technical bench by management.

Akhulia now faces the immediate task of preparing Police for their trip to the Coast as they seek to improve their early-season results.

Police opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Migori Youth before suffering a 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium on October 20.

The loss to Leopards left the former league champions searching for their first win of the campaign heading into the weekend fixture.

Akhulia brings experience from his time at Bidco United, where he served as head coach, and his involvement with Kenya’s Under-20 national team, the Rising Stars.

His experience in Kenyan football will be crucial as Police seek to restore stability following the technical bench changes and return to winning ways.

Mombasa United, meanwhile, will host the fixture at Mbaraki Sports Club on Sunday with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

The match presents an early test for Akhulia as he takes responsibility for a side that won the league title in the 2024/25 season and will be keen to challenge near the top of the standings again.

With no formal announcement detailing the duration of Akhulia’s expected interim role, his immediate focus remains Sunday's encounter, while the club's longer-term plans for the technical bench remain unclear.
